Flash: USD eyes Jackson Hole meeting – UBS

FXstreet.com (New York) - Geoffrey Yu, an FX Strategist at UBS looks ahead to next week where the USD is poised to be under focus.

Key quotes

Wednesday is the big data day for the US, highlighted by the release of the Minutes from the July 31 FOMC. This will be followed by the Bernanke-less Jackson Hole conference Thursday through Saturday.

“The Minutes may not say much, but markets will be looking for ‘trial balloon’ articles and comments on the sidelines of Jackson Hole for the latest taper odds. Climbing US 10Y yields haven’t helped the USD much over the past week but there could be a catch-up move if the Minutes or other forms of communication confirm a high likelihood of a September start to taper.”

Wall Street closes its 3rd negative day and collapses in the week

The US stocks market declines again on Friday as investors were away of risks as many questions remain unanswered across the table plus low volume that makes erratic movements. Wall Street logs second week in negative.
