Russian troops storming naval base in Simferopol

Ukraine's Defence Minister Ihor Tenyukh has just informed on facebook that Russian soldiers had stormed a military building in Simferopol, shooting in the air. It has been reported that at least one Ukrainian officer had been wounded.

The signing of the a draft bill for the annexation of Crimea by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and his speech earlier today in which he declared Crimea and Sevastopol as part of Russia, prompted pressure on Ukranian troops to surrender their posts.

The EUR and GBP fell against the dollar on the news, with GBP/USD hitting a one month low of 1.6552.
